This has been rightly said and acknowledged by all that “Mathematics is Queen of all Sciences”. The phrase has been well understood and appreciated with the passage of time. This beautiful subject has now got recognition in all aspects of human life like basic sciences, engineering, technology, information technology, bio-sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences etc. The power of mathematics is felt like never before.

Mathematics is highly advanced and developed discipline of the basic sciences. The study of Mathematics is both exciting in its own right and enormous in its applications. Mathematicians have an opportunity to make a lasting contribution on the society in diverse fields of human interest.
Rapid technological advances require professionals to lead in emerging disciplines of 21st Century. The need for improved development in the high-end technology areas can hardly be over-emphasized. One of the main factors associated with this is the use of IT based techniques in teaching and research of Mathematics. The Department of Mathematics takes the responsibility to address all such challenges.

The department is concentrating on human resource development in the field of mathematics for teaching at all levels of education in Pakistan. It is further extending the facilities to undertake higher education leading to PhD degrees. The graduates(BS) of this department are highly placed in international universities and are doing great in their studies. Besides this the graduates are trained to take up challenging jobs in R & D organizations and Financial Institutions of the country. A culture of research is being developed by extensive research activities of the faculty. The department is envisaging to be a centre of excellence in the country and the region besides being a role model for the other universities of the country. The foreign students are welcomed to undertake higher degree leading to MS and PhD. A number of research groups are working in diverse areas of mathematics. The department has a highly qualified and distinguished faculty.
