The Department

The Department of Mathematics was established in 2001 to offer mathematics courses in different degree programs of the CIIT. The Department started a four-year BS (Math) program in Fall 2002 at Islamabad Campus. MS leading to Ph.D program in Mathematics was started in Fall 2004. The department is offering opportunities and specializations in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Computational Mathematics. Rapid intellectual advances over the past fifty years have created a new field of intellectual endeavor, called Computer Science in North America and Informatics in Europe. The field not only encompasses a large body of knowledge about algorithms, processes, information, communication, languages, and systems but also concerns a new paradigm for representing and acquiring knowledge.

The department of mathematics has a highly qualified and distinguished faculty. There are 19 Ph.D. faculty members including 03 on Foreign Faculty Hiring Program. The faculty has a national and international standing and recognition

The research output of the department is very impressive and speaks clearly for the quality of the work. In the years 2007 and 2008, the faculty has published 107 and 91 papers respectively in the journals of international repute.

At present, there are 46 Ph.D. scholars registered in the department pursuing specialization in different areas of mathematics. So far 02 Ph.D. scholars have successfully completed Ph.D. degree and 02 have submitted their theses, whereas a number of scholars are in pipeline.

The research is being conducted and published extensively in international journals. There are strong research groups working in various research areas. There is a weekly seminar series addressed by local and international speakers. An international conference is held every year.

The Department aims to pursue excellence in Mathematics through teaching and research by developing appropriate curricula and teaching practices, acquiring talented faculty members, and providing an environment conducive to teaching, research and learning. The students are encouraged to develop new ideas in research and to apply them in real world problems. It is further resolved to take up the problems from the industry and to out source these solutions.
