The History
Department of Electrical Engineering was initially established as the Computer Engineering Department at the Johar campus, Islamabad in year 1999. Along with hiring faculty renowned for its expertise in research and application of technology, we established state-of-art laboratories equipped with latest and highly sophisticated equipment where students spend time to innovate and engineer basic as well novel ideas to supplement the theoretical course work.
Initially Microprocessor Lab, Electronics Lab and Computer Science Labs were established to meet needs of our students. Later in 2002, the Very-Large-Scale-Integration (VLSI) Lab was also established to further enhance the working and learning opportunities for our students. With the availability of latest facilities along with the efforts of our competent faculty and staff, we were able to gain recognition from HEC within a year.
Following the accomplishments of Computer Engineering program, CIIT took a lead and became one of the premier institutions to launch Telecom Engineering program in the region. With the inclusion of Telecom Engineering program, the initially established Computer Engineering Department was transformed into the Department of Electrical Engineering.
Recently the department of Electrical Engineering was shifted to the Permanent campus, Chak Shahzad, Islamabad, where we have established nine new labs with latest cutting edge technology and equipment. These new labs are an added addition to our intellectual armament. Moreover, with a whole building block at our disposal, we are now better able to design an environment particularly suited to technological learning.
Our department started with a humble intake of 31 students but with our main focus and effort to meet the growing demands of industry and emphasis on the quality of education and skill, Computer Engineering, as a result was granted HEC’s recognition in August 2000 and PEC’s recognition in 2003. With the introduction of Telecom Engineering program, we were able to satisfy the demand of the robust Telecom industry in Pakistan. Our Telecom degree is also HEC and PEC recognized.
