Debate Competition

  

The thought behind organizing a debate competition is to enhance and polish the speaking skills of students so that they can build their personalities with confidence, boldness and at the end, have a professional attitude.

  

Rules & Regulations

  

The theme of competition will follow parliamentary style debate.

• A team will consist of 3 speakers.

·   Topic will be announced 30 minutes before the actual competition.

• A toss will decide the team to speak on ‘proposition’ or ‘opposition’ of the topic.

• The 1st speaker of the proposition team will present his initial statement who will be allowed 4 minutes time.

• Then the opposition team’s 1st speaker will present his opening statement which will also be allowed 4 minutes time.

• Then the 2nd speaker of proposition team will be allowed to ask questions from the opposition team about their opening statement and will also add some points on their side.

• Then the 2nd speaker of opposition team will be allowed to ask questions from the proposition team about their opening statement and will also add some points on their side.

• Then the 3rd speaker of proposition team will give answers to any queries left and add finishing remarks to their topics.

• Then the 3rd speaker of opposition team will give answers to any queries left and add finishing remarks to their topics.

• Questions during speech are only going to be asked from 2nd and 3rd speaker and by saying “point of information” or any feasible remark. Three “point of information” per speaker are allowed.

• The speaker can accept  or deny the question by his will.

• Participants will be allowed 30 minutes to prepare their material for the topic using the guideline from their trainer, internet etc.

• Medium of debates will be English.

• Late comers will be charged penalty of deduction of marks.

• All decisions made by judges committee are going to be final and unchallengeable.

• Abusive language by a participant in his speech is strictly disallowed.

·   The teams’ score will be the sum of the scores of the individuals in the team.
