North West Frontier Province (NWFP)/Synoptic Labs

The department includes a powerful computing environment with a network of workstations, Department scientists use computer to run various state-of-the-art regional and global atmospheric models. Real-time meteorological data are downloaded and processed by the department to support its research and teaching missions. The department also utilizes the laboratory facilities available in Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Islamabad. However, the department is in the process of establishing its own research laboratories that will be equipped with most advanced equipment. Each of these laboratories will have sufficient equipment equipped with computers required for performing the experiments and will give basic training to the students. Some of the equipments already in pipeline are, Automatic Weather Station (AWS), Lightning Detector with Hardware and Software, Wireless Rain Gauge with Hardware and Software, Pollen Counter, Weak Motion Broad Band Seismometer With Accessories (Digitizer, Recorder, Solar Panel etc) and Software, Environmental Chamber, Digital Atmospheric Plotting Software, SADIS system for meteorological data processing, RAOB Software, ERDAS Imagine Software, Arc GIS Software, High Speed (3.6 GHz) Servers for Climate Models, Digitizer, Scanner, Plotter and Laser Color Printers.

Computer Science Lab

The IT Computer Labs at the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology provide facilities and state of the art computer technology to assist students and faculty in achieving their academic goals. The IT Computer labs provide several open labs for student use and also a variety of labs that are available for use as classrooms.

Remote Sensing Lab

Remote Sensing labs are well equipped with the state of the art hardware and software. ERDAS imagine and other image processing software has been installed on Pentium IV machines. The labs offer a peaceful environment where students can carry out their research in an innovative way.

GIS Lab

Geographic Information System labs are also well equipped with the state of the art hardware and software. Arc GIS and Arcnfo softwares are installed on Pentium IV machines. The labs are offering an environment where students can carry out peacefully their research and projects in an innovative way.
