North West Frontier Province (NWFP)/Synoptic Labs
The department includes a powerful computing environment with a network of workstations, Department scientists use computer to run various state-of-the-art regional and global atmospheric models. Real-time meteorological data are downloaded and processed by the department to support its research and teaching missions. The department also utilizes the laboratory facilities available in Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Islamabad. However, the department is in the process of establishing its own research laboratories that will be equipped with most advanced equipment. Each of these laboratories will have sufficient equipment equipped with computers required for performing the experiments and will give basic training to the students. Some of the equipments already in pipeline are, Automatic Weather Station (AWS), Lightning Detector with Hardware and Software, Wireless Rain Gauge with Hardware and Software, Pollen Counter, Weak Motion Broad Band Seismometer With Accessories (Digitizer, Recorder, Solar Panel etc) and Software, Environmental Chamber, Digital Atmospheric Plotting Software, SADIS system for meteorological data processing, RAOB Software, ERDAS Imagine Software, Arc GIS Software, High Speed (3.6 GHz) Servers for Climate Models, Digitizer, Scanner, Plotter and Laser Color Printers.
